Questions
Questions about this service.
How much does it cost to drill post holes?
It depends on how many holes, the diameter, the depth, the soil type and the access. Every job carries a mobilization minimum. We give you the full price before we start: send us those details through the form or by text.
What diameter and depth do you drill?
Tell us the size your project calls for (whatever your installer or your plans specify) and we confirm it before scheduling.
Do you call 811 before drilling?
In California, underground lines must be marked through 811 (USA North 811) before any digging. Before we drill, we confirm there is a valid 811 ticket for the address.
Can you drill in hard soil, clay or rocky ground?
Soil around here can get very hard, especially in summer. Tell us what kind of ground it is and, if you can, send us a photo; we factor it into the price and the time. If we hit rock or buried concrete, we let you know before continuing.
What access does the machine need?
A compact skid steer needs a clear path roughly 4 feet wide with no steps. If your gate is narrower, send us a photo and we tell you what is possible.
Will the machine damage my lawn or driveway?
Before we start, we go over with you where the machine comes in and out and what is in the way (lawn, pavers, sprinklers). If anything concerns us, we tell you before we begin.
How soon can you come out?
It depends on the week’s schedule. Put your date in the form and we confirm availability along with the quote.
Are you a licensed contractor?
No. GroundPilot is not a licensed contractor, so we only take small jobs under $1,000 (labor and materials combined). We carry liability insurance. If your project is bigger, we’ll let you know before quoting and point you to a licensed contractor.
Is there a minimum charge?
Yes. Every job includes a mobilization minimum that covers bringing the machine to your site. It always shows in your quote before you say yes.
When do I pay?
After the work is done and you have looked it over. No deposits to book a standard job.
Do you work with contractors on a recurring basis?
That is our favorite kind of work. Fence and concrete contractors can send us jobs as they come in; we keep the pricing consistent and the scheduling simple.
Do you set the posts or pour the concrete?
No. We focus on drilling and breaking; setting posts and pouring is done by your crew or your installer.
Which cities do you cover?
Fairfield, Suisun City and Vacaville, and nearby cities in Solano and Napa counties (for example Cordelia, Green Valley, Benicia, Dixon, Vallejo, American Canyon or Napa) — ask us.
